Packers and Broncos Place Key Players on Commissioner’s Exempt List

Two prominent NFL players were placed on the commissioner’s exempt list on Sunday, sidelining them from game action while the league reviews their respective legal situations.

Packers' Josh Jacobs Placed on Exempt List

The Green Bay Packers have placed running back Josh Jacobs on the list, just three days after he was charged with two misdemeanors stemming from an alleged incident involving a woman in May. As a result, Jacobs will not be part of the Packers’ 53-man active roster and is barred from practicing or attending games. However, he is permitted to work out, attend team meetings, and receive medical treatment at the facility. The NFL is still reviewing Jacobs’ case.

Broncos' Jonathan Cooper Also Added

In a separate move on Sunday, the Denver Broncos placed linebacker Jonathan Cooper on the commissioner’s exempt list. Cooper is expected to appear in court on Monday for arraignment on domestic violence charges. Like Jacobs, Cooper will not count toward the Broncos’ 53-man active roster, but he will be allowed to participate in individual workouts and meetings and can seek medical treatment.

What Is the Commissioner's Exempt List?

The commissioner’s exempt list is a mechanism designed to remove a player from participation in games and practices while potential violations of the NFL’s personal conduct policy are being reviewed. It allows teams to maintain roster flexibility while the league investigates the matter.
