Olympique de Marseille’s transfer activity may be far from over, but according to manager Bruno Genesio, the prospect of new arrivals is slim. Despite a flurry of departures, the club has yet to secure a single signing this summer, and Genesio has indicated that further exits are necessary before any new faces can join.

OM have offloaded several high-profile players, including Mason Greenwood, Facundo Medina, Geronimo Rulli, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Additionally, former captain Leonardo Balerdi has departed on loan to Roma. These moves were part of a broader strategy to reduce costs, with promises made to UEFA and the DNCG to significantly cut spending, largely by moving on the club’s top earners.
High Earners Remain a Hurdle
Despite these sales, Marseille have not managed to bring in any new players. The likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Geoffrey Kondogbia, both on substantial wages, remain at the club, complicating efforts to free up funds for new signings. As a result, there is little hope of Les Phocéens adding to their squad before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.
Genesio's Candid Admission
Speaking in a press conference attended by Get French Football News on Sunday night, Genesio was straightforward about the situation. “There won’t be any recruits,” he said. When local journalists expressed surprise, he clarified: “As I have said, three of four [more] players have to leave us for us to be able to register one or two arrivals.”
With the window set to close, Marseille fans may have to wait until the next transfer period to see any new additions to the squad.
