Real Madrid’s Champions League Opener: Güler, Silva, and Camavinga Suspended for Inter Clash

José Mourinho faces a selection headache ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League opener against Inter Milan, with three key midfielders ruled out through suspension. Arda Güler, Bernardo Silva, and Eduardo Camavinga will all miss the match after accumulating cards in their final European appearances last season.

Suspensions Leave Midfield Depleted

The trio’s absence forces Mourinho to rethink his midfield setup for the crucial group-stage fixture. With the regular options unavailable, the Portuguese coach must explore alternative combinations to maintain balance and creativity in the middle of the park.

Potential Replacements and Tactical Shifts

One possible solution hinges on the fitness of Aurelien Tchouameni. If the French midfielder recovers from injury in time, he could partner Federico Valverde in the double pivot. However, Tchouameni has yet to rejoin full training with the squad and has not completed a single session under Real Madrid’s new coaching staff, making his inclusion in the starting XI a risky proposition.

Bellingham and Alexander-Arnold as Alternatives

Should Tchouameni be unavailable, Mourinho could shift Jude Bellingham into a deeper double-pivot role. This would allow Brahim Díaz and Diomandé to support the attacking line alongside Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappé. Another, more unconventional option would be deploying Trent Alexander-Arnold in midfield, though this would represent a significant tactical experiment.

As things stand, Mourinho must weigh these options carefully to field a competitive side against Inter, ensuring the team’s Champions League campaign starts on a positive note despite the enforced changes.
