Pro Football Focus has released its rankings of the top 32 cornerbacks heading into the 2026 NFL season, and the Denver Broncos are well represented. Two defensive backs from Denver made the list, with Pat Surtain II and Ja’Quan McMillian both earning recognition among the league’s best at the position.
PFF's Top Cornerbacks List Includes Two Broncos
Seattle Seahawks cornerback Devon Witherspoon tops the PFF list, but the Broncos have a notable presence with two players included. PFF writer Dalton Wasserman explained his reasoning for placing both Surtain and McMillian among the top cornerbacks in the NFL.
Pat Surtain II's Consistent Performance
Surtain, who won the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2024, did not quite match that level of play last season, according to Wasserman. Still, he performed at a high level while playing at least 1,000 snaps for the fourth consecutive year. His 73.3 PFF grade ranked 22nd among all qualified cornerbacks. He also recorded 10 pass breakups and one interception. Wasserman noted that Surtain will continue to be the headliner for one of the league’s elite secondaries.
Ja'Quan McMillian's Versatility in the Slot
McMillian was the highest-graded primary slot cornerback in the NFL last season, according to PFF. His 80.8 grade ranked fourth among all qualified cornerbacks. Including the postseason, he tallied three interceptions, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles, and four sacks. Wasserman highlighted McMillian’s versatility, which allows Denver to execute a variety of schemes at a very high level.
Broncos Cornerbacks Key to AFC Championship Repeat Bid
As roster cuts dominate headlines, Surtain and McMillian will help lead the Broncos in their attempt to return to the AFC Championship game this season. Their presence in the secondary gives Denver a strong foundation on defense.
